Key responsibilities of immigration officers include:

Processing immigration applications: Immigration officers review and process applications for visas, residence permits, citizenship, asylum, and other immigration benefits. They verify the accuracy and completeness of application materials, conduct background checks, and assess eligibility criteria based on immigration laws and regulations.
Conducting interviews and investigations: Immigration officers may conduct interviews with applicants to assess their eligibility for immigration benefits or to gather additional information about their case. They may also conduct investigations to verify the authenticity of documents, investigate potential immigration fraud, or gather evidence related to immigration violations.
Enforcing immigration laws: Immigration officers enforce immigration laws and regulations by identifying individuals who are in violation of immigration laws, such as unauthorized immigrants, visa overstays, or individuals engaged in fraudulent activities. They may initiate removal (deportation) proceedings against individuals who are inadmissible or removable under immigration laws.
Border control and security: Immigration officers play a critical role in maintaining border security and preventing illegal entry into the country. They inspect travel documents, conduct screenings, and conduct border patrols to detect and deter illegal immigration, human trafficking, smuggling, and other border-related crimes.
Providing information and assistance: Immigration officers provide information and assistance to individuals seeking immigration benefits or information about immigration processes and procedures. They may answer questions, provide guidance on completing application forms, and offer resources or referrals to legal services or community organizations.
Collaboration with other agencies: Immigration officers collaborate with other government agencies, law enforcement agencies, and international partners to coordinate immigration enforcement efforts, share information and intelligence, and address cross-border immigration issues and challenges.
